New To The Orchestra
|
Most of us have seen or enjoyed the music of world renowned bands such as the Rolling Stones, the Eagles, Big & Rich or even local bands such as the Party Dolls and Psycho Betty.
Many people claim to have an eclectic taste in music, i.e. they enjoy many different types of music. It is not unusual to enjoy both country and classical music.
If you have never attended a concert by a Symphony Orchestra, you have been missing something special.
The Schuylkill Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 26th year this year and it is an outstanding resource for Schuylkill County.
So, you may be wondering what its like to attend a concert. We have tried to anticipate some of the questions you may have:
1. Do I need to "dress up" to attend?
No. Youll see concert goers in suits, dresses, khakis, slacks
.. Wear what makes you comfortable.
2. Who attends the concerts?
Great music attracts people from all walks of life. At our concerts youll see children, the local grocer, your neighbor next door, and fellow sports fans.
3. Will I recognize the music being played?
Youll recognize more than you think. If you would like to learn more, then come to our pre-concert lectures before the concert. See the concert schedule for details.
4. How long are the concerts?
Most concerts are under 2 hours with no overtime or extra innings.
5. When should I clap?
Typically at a concert, the audience claps at the end of each piece; however, some pieces have several movements. To find out if a piece has any movements and how many, consult the program page of your concert program. There is a 15 to 30 second pause in between movements. Generally, the audience does not clap at this point.
6. Please turn off cell phones and pagers or keep them on silent.
7. Where may I purchase individual concert tickets?
Tickets are available for the Schuylkill Symphony Orchestra concert at AAA in Pottsville and Tamaqua, the Schuylkill Mall Customer Service Center, directly from the office (see concert ticket order form or call the office at 570-628-2632) or at the door the night of the concert.
8. Are the concert locations handicapped accessible?
Yes. We hold our concerts at public school auditoriums, which all have handicap provisions. We do ask that you please contact the office beforehand at 570-628-2632 to inform us of your needs, so we are better prepared to assist you.
9. I still have more questions. Whom can I contact?
You may contact the office at 570-628-2632 or via e-mail at schsymphony@verizon.net.
