Youth Symphony & Education



Founded in 1990, the YSO consists of many talented young musicians from ages 11 to 18 under the direction of John F. Potlunas, YSO Music Director and Conductor. The YSO gives these young musicians an opportunity to grow and learn musically. The YSO performs 2 public concerts each year and 1 private concert to area 4th grade students.

Young Artist Competition

The Young Artist Competition is another educational program of the SSO. It gives talented young musicians an opprotunity to compete with other muscians in their age groups. The winner then has the opportunity to perform with the SSO.

4th Grade Concert

Every year the Schuylkill Youth Symphony Orchestra performs a free concert to all area 4th grade students in an effort to help build on their exposure to musical instruments. This program has been successful in strengthening the desire for aspiring young musicians to begin taking lessons on the instrument of their choice.


Free Admission to Concerts

The SSO offers free admission to all of the SSO and YSO concerts to students ages 18 and under. What better way to give young musicians or musical enthusiasts an opportunity to experience Symphonic and Orchestral music and to build on their appreciation.
